The driver was gesturing that it was not permitted, indicating that it was against his regulations to open except at a bus stop for it was dangerous in rush hour traffic; however, the man would not stop — the driver opened the door and the man got on. However he did not give up asking, and "because of his importunity (anaemia, shameless insistence)" the lazy one finally did rise and gave him as much as he needed. The commentator wrote that God may not answer our prayers speedily, yet if we continue to "knock, and the door will be opened to you." This was demonstrated to me the very next morning, and took the parable one step further: In the city centre, beside a red traffic light, an unappealing older man was knocking at a bus door. The driver was gesturing that it was not permitted, indicating that it was against his regulations to open except at a bus stop for it was dangerous in rush hour traffic; however, the man would not stop — the driver opened the door and the man got on.
